Opening Night, April 22nd.

After a few hours of stress, laying down carpet, spray painting ceilings, getting visuals and sounds hooked up, and hanging all the artwork the doors where open and suprisingly enough we had a nice little crowd in the door even a half hour after the doors were open. It was nice to just sit down and have a few beers and get some feedback on the place from our friends, and the artists involved. It was a really sucsessful night, i think everyone enjoyed themselves, the art work, and the space. We would like to say a special thanks to everyone who was involved, exhibited their work and to those who came down to visit and support us.

Don’t Panic!!

All the artists had been confirmed, the art work had been handed in, the new walls were in the gallery and painted white, the lights had been installed, the upstairs lounge and the floors still needed to be looked after as well as some of the ceiling still needed to be touched up with black. We had all been breaking our backs non stop all week before the big night and were still doing so up until 4am the morning before the opening. At last minute we decided to rip up the carpet in the lounge upstairs to find a layer of lyno flooring we then had to rip up as well, we painted the floors again with a layer of oil base floor paint that realistically needs 2 days to dry….the night before. Ah well. We got in early only a few hours after we left actually, the floors were still wet, the art work needed to be hung as well as a list of other slight altercations. We decided to go out to Des Kellys and buy any odds and ends carpet we could get our hands on to sort out the velcro floor situation. Finally hung the work up until the very last minute when the doors were opened……

Lets get the ball rolling…

On March 17th a few more creative heads came on board to help the guys try and get the place together and give it that atmosphere to make any artistic body and soul feel at home. Collectively we decided that in order to really get the ball rolling on the place and give everyone that extra bit of motivation we needed to set a launch date, to unveil the space to some of our closest friends, family and valued minds alike. We thought Good Friday would be pretty apt seeing as the weather is usually quite nice, and most people have the day off work and are looking for something do/see. So April 22nd it was, weve been documenting the space since we started its complete reconstruction in order to make it a presentable and nearly polished space for exhibiting work. If we had documented the space from the very beginning you would be blown away by the transformation, but we think even the work done over the last few weeks is a credit to the dedication of the people involved.

The Beginning of the End

This space was acquired on the 15th of Jan, 2011. After a lot of time deliberation a focus and drive for the space was created, although the space was originally intended as an office and meeting place for the events managment and marketing company Emergence Dublin, ran by our nearest and dearest Neil Burke, Craig Connolly and Shaun Darcey. They seen more potential for the place once they had all the rubbish and old furniture out, ideally they wanted a collective of creative people to bounce ideas off for events and projects. However every business man has a pet project and this is where the creation of the Little Green Street Gallery came from, these guys have been putting together funds from their own business ventures to support and build this space for all of us to enjoy, and i think the next year going to be an adventurous one.

Little Green Street Gallery – Gallery/Studio space/Offices – A meeting point for creative minds.

This space was created from scratch by a group of like minded indivduals, we wanted to create a place that we could all meet and work on projects in the right enviorment with the right people. We would like to encourage artists, musicians, designers, and creatives from all walks to come in and work in our wi-fi lounge, share ideas and thoughts. We also have a small but original gallery space open, we would like to promote t his space as a low cost one in which we will only charge the price of rent, esb and any other essential up keep costs to encourage artists from every background a chance to show their work. Finally, we are currently working on cleaning up one of the spaces in the back of the building that is quite large with alot of natural light to rent out a work space for 1-2 artists. We would like to keep the space as interesting and versitile as the people supporting it so please feel free to watch this space for upcoming once off exhibitions, live illustration sessions, “secret” parties & rummage sales.
